Sarcoma Summit in Sydney!
It was a privilege for Bricks & Smiles to be invited to speak at the second Sarcoma Summit at St Vincent’s Hospital, in Sydney on 8 November 2024.
This event was driven by the unwavering commitment from the Cooper Rice Brading Foundation and the support of the Sydney Local Health District, including the RPA Bone and Soft Tissue Sarcoma Unit. At its core was the broad objective of shifting the dial on outcomes for sarcoma patients. Sarcoma is considered a ‘rare’ cancer and outcomes have not improved significantly over the past decades. A unique and compelling feature of the Sarcoma Summit is the way it brings together clinicians, scientists, allied health professionals, patients, families, and non-government organisations. We each have a different set of experiences and expertise but all are driven by the desire to improve outcomes.
Bricks and Smiles founder Rebecca Minty joined a panel discussion on services for sarcoma. In the later session which focused on research and not for profit orgnaisations Rebecca and her mum Marylou were part of the ‘fireside chat’, talking about the work of BRICKS & SMILES to bring joy through LEGO to kids undergoing cancer treatment. Also part of this session was Mandy Basson from SOCK IT TO SARCOMA an organisation that does incredible work in Western Australia providing advocacy and support for sarcoma patients.
A huge thank you to the Cooper Rice Brading Foundation and Sydney Local Health District for an excellent day.
